I am an Associate Professor of Economics at Swarthmore College, studying behavioral and public economics. I am also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Wharton School, at the University of Pennsylvania.
I am also an Academic Affiliate at the Office of Evaluation Sciences, a Board Member at the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics, a Senior Researcher at the Applied Cooperation Initiative, and a founding member of the Philadelphia Behavioral Science Initiative.
I completed a Ph.D. in Public Policy at Harvard University in 2015, an M.P.P. at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2009, and a B.A. in Public Policy and International Affairs at Princeton University in 2006.

My Work
My research centersĀ on field experiments that use behavioral science concepts to influence decision-making, with a focus on pro-social behavior, personal finance decisions, and issues around development, poverty, and welfare.
My work often involves collaborations with firms, local and national governments, non-profits, and international agencies.
Teaching
I am passionate about teaching and have served in teaching roles at a number of institutions, including Swarthmore College, the Wharton School, Brown University, Harvard College, the Harvard Kennedy School, and Northeastern University. I received the Harvard Kennedy School Dean’s Award for Excellence in Student Teaching three times, and the Harvard University Certificate of Distinction in Teaching twice. You can find out more about my teaching on the “Teaching” tab on this site.

The Fun Stuff
In my free time, I love golf (and am a member of Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, PA) and playing guitar. I also enjoy reading (great non-fiction in particular) and am a big fan of music, movies, and sports. And of course, I am thankful for my wife Susie (suschwarz.com), my daughter Leena, my family, my friends, and my two dogs, Humphrey and Lola.
